It’s been a BUSY year, to say the least!! We’ve had some kind of fundraising event almost every month of 2018. T
hank you all for supporting us!! And, we are nearing the half-way mark in our fundraising. We have been fortunate to have received several thousand dollars in donations this year. We could not be where we are without everyone’s help.
Starbucks surprised us in June when they put the Old Millstadt Water Tower on their “Been There” mug for Illinois. We have tried to find out how the Tin Man was chosen, but we’ve been unable to learn anything. All we know is that Starbucks put the Tin Man on their mug, along with quite a few other Illinois landmarks, so you might say “we’ve put Millstadt on the map”!!
As we near the end of 2018, the Friends will be selling the Tin Man merchandise at Millstadt IGA on November 25 from 12:30-5:00, and then on December 22 from 9:00 until 3:00. We’ll also be at Lee’s Home Center, 1 South Illinois Street in Millstadt on December 15 from 9-12. If you can’t shop on those days, contact us through this website or call 618-520-3623 and we’ll deliver your purchases.
If you do some of your Christmas shopping online, visit https://smile.amazon.com/, and choose Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower as your charity of choice. Amazon will donate, in most cases, a percentage of your purchase to the Friends. Use https://smile.amazon.com/ whenever you want to purchase something through Amazon. With the end of the year rapidly approaching, it’s not too late to make your year-end charitable contributions. The Friends is a 501 (C) 3 charity. We will send you an acknowledgement that you can use for your taxes. Online donations may be made right from this website – go to the Support tab, and then to Donations. 2019 will be another busy year for the Friends. We’re trying a new fundraiser, a Soup Supper, on January 10 from 4:30-7:00 at the Millstadt Community Center. Our annual bowl-a-thon is scheduled for February 2 at Bel-Air Bowl in Belleville. We’ll be hosting our fifth annual trivia night/silent auction on March 9 at the St. James Parish Center. (We raised over $6,000 at the 2018 trivia night/silent auction). June will have the annual Half-marathon/5K races on the second, and then our bake sale/tee shirt sale will be at Millstadt IGA on the 15th. September will be another busy month with two events – Noble Shire Carriages will be giving horse-drawn trolley rides on the 22nd and our fifth classic car show will be on the 28th at Mertz Ford. And, you never know where else we might be. We’re open to suggestions always.
We have two more years to reach our goal. Thanks, again, for your support. We’ve said this for several years that the Tower has many friends in many places, and everyone is appreciated very much. We look forward to your continued support.
