Hello, again, from Chairman of Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower!! Two months have passed since my last blog, and they have been busy, as usual.

June saw the Friends’ second annual bake sale and tee shirt sale on June 18, right before Father’s Day.  Thanks to all the many folks who stopped by to support the Tin Man.  We had many generous buyers of baked goods…one gentleman paid $50 for one of Marianne Schaefer’s “award winning pies”!!  Good stuff, Maynard!!  And, we can’t forget the non-members who also baked for us.  Many thanks to those talented ladies, too!!

Three days after the bake sale, Mariachi’s Restaurant in Millstadt hosted a “restaurant night” for the benefit of the Old Water Tower.  When my group told our waiter that we were there for the Water Tower, he said almost everyone was there for the Water Tower.  Mariachi’s donated $440 to the Tin Man, a portion of their receipts.  Thank you Mariachi’s and everyone who came out.

We have a little bit of a break in fund raising now, but we are “gearing up” for the second annual Classic Car Show at Mertz Ford on October 22 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.  Best Sounds Entertainment will be providing the music, and we will have pulled pork, burgers and hot dogs, plus homemade baked desserts.  Registration will be from 9:30-11, and costs $20.  Custom trophies will be awarded.

Look for the Tin Man in the annual Millstadt Home-Coming parades on September 3 and 4.  Parades both days start at 5:00.  And, wear your Water Tower tee shirts (Haven’t got one?  Order one from this website).

As of the end of July, our supporters have clipped 5,500 IGA bar codes to help the Tin Man.  IGA pays us 10-cents for each one we submit to the corporate office.  Just shop at your favorite IGA store, buy IGA products, clip the bar code, and bring them to Millstadt IGA, 625 E. Washington, Millstadt.  And, while you are coming to Millstadt IGA, drop off your empty ink jet cartridges.  Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower recycle those for the benefit of the Tin Man.

Like shopping online?  Don’t forget to select Friends of the Old Millstat Water Tower as your charity at www.smile.amazon.com.  They will donate .5% of the purchase price on some of your purchases.

So, how are we doing with our fund raising?  Drum roll, please…as of the end of July, we have reached 16% of our goal, in 10% of the time we have to collect the needed funds!!  Not bad, but we have a long way to still go.  We thank the many supporters who have sent their donations to us at P. O. Box 335, Millstadt, IL  62260.  We are set-up for online donations.  Simply go to the “Support Shop” tab on this website, and follow the prompts.  Remember, we are a 501 (c) 3 charity.  Donations to us are tax deductible, if you can itemize your donations on your tax return.

Okay, that’s all for this month.  Enjoy the rest of your summer, and remember, “Let’s all work together to save the Tower”.

Thanks…

Betty Keller Timmer
