Hello and Greetings again from the Chairman of Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower. Well, so much for writing a monthly blog. Who knew saving a water tower would be such a demanding job?
We have had a very busy three months, beginning with our second annual trivia night on April 2, another successful event. Three weeks later the Illinois Trekkers Volkssport Club came to Millstadt for their “Old Tin Man Walk”, their best attended walk of the year, so far. And two weeks after that was a dual-event weekend. The Friends participated in Millstadt’s Village-wide yard sale, and the Modern Woodmen of America, Chapter 3829 held their annual bake sale/raffle with the Old Water Tower being this year’s beneficiary. The best part was that the home office of Modern Woodmen matched the local chapter’s profit dollar for dollar!! And, the Friends did very well with the yard sale, thanks to one of our very dedicated members, Marianne Schaefer.
Now it’s time to concentrate on June’s events. The Friends will be having our annual bake sale/tee shirt sale (and all of our other merchandise) at Millstadt IGA (625 E. Washington, Millstadt) on June 18 beginning at 10 a.m. Then on Tuesday June 21, from 4-9 p.m., Mariachi’s Restaurant, 717 W. Washington, Millstadt, will be having Restaurant Night for the benefit of the Tower. Simply tell your server that you’re there to support the Tower, and Mariachi’s will donate a portion of your non-alcoholic purchase to the Tower.
The Tin Man’s supporters have been busy clipping bar codes on IGA products and returning them to Millstadt IGA. We have submitted 4,000 to the home office of IGA, and they give the Tin Man 10 cents for every bar code. That’s an easy way to get some money for the Water Tower.
Have any empty ink jet cartridges from your printer? Bring them to Millstadt IGA. Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower will recycle them, and receive a little income from Green Hippo.
